Good news!

Great things that have happened in recent months:
1. One asylum seeker who needed to report to an ICE check-in in person in St. Albans had a very successful trip and was checked in and was out the door in 20 minutes (after waiting apprehensively for 45 minutes.)
2. A family check-in was done by email with no problems.
3. One of our asylum seekers sent in the application for the Employment Authorization Document (EAD). The work permit and social security number should arrive in less than a month.
4. Our 2 families with preschoolers are now independently taking their children to school either with The Bus or on their eBikes with child trailers! Thank you to the Wallingford Rotary Club’s donation of helmets for all. And thanks to all of the volunteers who helped with the bikes and accompanying them on The Bus.
5. One asylum seeker and partner were able to move into a spacious first-floor apartment and are so much more comfortable. Keep them in your thoughts as she continues to receive medical treatments.
6. Two of our asylum seekers are taking their driving permit tests imminently. They will be working with funds from VASC to take driving lessons and the test. They are each saving for a car. Let us know in the next month or so if you have any leads on safe inexpensive vehicles.
