2025 Artist: Lou Hall

As Arts Marathon artists we will send a different example of our creative process and work to everyone who sponsors us, five days per week during April. We invite our friends, family, colleagues and anyone else who cares about art and wants to support Bridge to Rutland’s important work to sponsor us. Together we will help welcome new Americans who, in turn, will add immeasurably to our communities.

Lou‘s Arts Marathon Goal
I'll be offering a variety of AI Image Creations.
Lou‘s Background

I have over 30 thousand photographic images in my library. However, I still consider myself a piker among the many super-talented photographers and image editors I follow today.

The photography bug bit me early. My first actual lessons began at Guilderland Central High School in 1968 and have continued since. We shot everything using Kodak's black and white film and then developed and printed our photos in a well-outfitted dark room. The smell of the developer, stop bath, and fixer chemicals we used is unforgettable.

My first 35 mm film camera, which I still own, was a Pentax K1000 that I went on to use in my early aerial photography business, hanging out of the window of a Cessna 172 Skyhawk. I also own a Bronica ETRS 645 Medium Format Film Camera, a Sony Mavica MVC-FD5 Digital Camera, two Nikons, and my Canon 30D. I'm currently using an iPhone 13 Pro Max, although many of the older photographic images on my website were captured with my Canon 30D.

I nearly always shoot in Adobe Camera RAW, where much of the heavy lifting of photographic image editing occurs. I then do additional image editing work in Photoshop 2025, Adobe Lightroom, and Topaz Photo AI. I was first introduced to Photoshop when version CS2 appeared in 2005.

I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Head and Neck Cancer in November of 2016. After all the radiation and Chemotherapy, I wasn’t expected to live more than three years. Gratefully, I’m still alive nine years later, although I’m now confined to my living room recliner, which has all but ended my ability to capture new photographs with a camera. By the Grace of God, AI came into view for me two years ago, and it has offered me a new lease on life creatively.

All that said, I’m currently using Midjourney AI image editing software, although I also still use Photoshop 2025, Adobe Lightroom, and Topaz Photo AI, along with several other AI image editors.

I'll end my bio where I began.
I still consider myself a piker, but I keep moving forward for four reasons:

1. Often, a finished image makes me smile.

2. One of my images may make you smile.

3. It provides a window into my past.
