2024 Artist: Mary Crowley
As Arts Marathon artists we will send a different example of our creative process and work to everyone who sponsors us, five days per week during April. We invite our friends, family, colleagues and anyone else who cares about art and wants to support Bridge to Rutland’s important work to sponsor us. Together we will help welcome new Americans who, in turn, will add immeasurably to our communities.
Mary‘s Arts Marathon Goal
I will be showing artwork from years gone by as well as cheerful postcards I create now.Mary‘s Background
I have always been interested in drawing and painting. I have a framed drawing, from my baby book, that I did when I was 2 1/2 years old. I created art, on and off, until I graduated from Middlebury College, after which I taught English. I was in a small high school in New Hampshire and decided I wanted to add an art class. With help from the Director of Art Education in N.H., I introduced art to the small town where I taught. I found that teaching art was wonderfully fulfilling and thus decided I wanted to be certified in Art. I took many art classes and thereafter taught Art at many grade levels, K-12, as well as one college course.
In Vermont I have shown my work at The Chaffee Art Center and Southern Vermont Art Center. I painted landscapes and flowers for many years but lately have been creating what my college friend in California called Cheerful Postcards. No need to mat and frame! I am hopeful that I will have sponsors so that I can support the wonderful work that Ellen Green is doing for asylum seekers.
